Last year felt like a shift, not just in my responsibilities, but in who I was becoming. After being appointed the prefect, something clicked. Teachers started to notice the way I handled competitions, how I guided my teammates with clarity, and how I stayed grounded even during the most chaotic school days. Their faith in me was one of the biggest compliments I have ever received and what followed was a dream I had quietly held for years: I was appointed the House Captain.
It felt surreal. I had always wanted to wear that badge, but more than that, I had wanted to lead, to really understand what it meant to take responsibility not just for myself, but for a group of people depending on me. This role gave me that chance. I got to experience leadership not as a title, but as a test of patience, empathy, and consistency. I understood what it meant to listen, to guide, and to take accountability even when things did not go as planned.
Then came 15th August, and with it, the opportunity to lead the march past. It was the first time that a girl House Captain was chosen to carry the flag for the house, and it was me. I still remember standing there, flag in hand, heart racing, but head high. It was a moment of pride, but also of quiet strength.
We had practiced for weeks, almost an entire month spent in coaching, under the sun, repeating every movement until it was perfect. I watched students come together, helped them find their rhythm, supported the ones who doubted themselves, and kept the team spirit alive no matter how tired we were. We were not just preparing for a performance, we were building unity, confidence, and resilience.
And in the end, it all paid off. We secured the first position. I remember the celebration that followed, cutting an ice cream cake, cheering so loud the halls echoed, laughing until our cheeks hurt. It was pure joy. Not because we won, but because we earned it, together.
That moment will always stay with me. It wasn’t just a highlight of the year, it was a reminder of who I am when I truly show up.
